Health. Medically, an eyelid twitch is usually myokymia: small, harmless contractions of the eyelid muscle, brought on by stress, short sleep, too much tea or coffee, or long hours at a screen. It mostly settles within days. See a doctor, ideally an eye specialist, if the twitching lasts beyond about two weeks, spreads to the cheek or mouth, the eyelid droops or will not open, or the eye is red or painful or your vision changes. In Shakun Shastra, the lore of omens, a throbbing of the body (anga sphurana, अंग फड़कना) on the right side is auspicious for a man and on the left side for a woman, and the other side calls for care.
