See the full Guna Milan, not just a score out of 36.

Every Kuta’s points, then the Mangal, Nadi and Bhakoot checks on their own.

Enter both birth records

Male partner

Without it the ascendant, the houses and Mangal from the ascendant are approximate; the Moon sign and Guna Milan usually are not.

Female partner

Without it the ascendant, the houses and Mangal from the ascendant are approximate; the Moon sign and Guna Milan usually are not.

Names label the two results; they do not affect the score. Use recorded birth times when you have them: a guessed time can change houses and Mangal analysis.

Classical Guna Milan uses directional rules and calculates the male chart first. The labels above preserve that scoring order.

Kundli matching by name and date of birth: what each detail does.

This calculator asks for both names and both sets of birth details. The names label the two results; the dates, exact times and places calculate the actual Moon, Nakshatra, Lagna and houses used for the match.

When dates and times are known

Use the form above. It computes the traditional 36-point Ashtakoot score and adds Mangal, Nadi, Bhakoot and wider chart context. This is the stronger route because it does not infer a birth star from a name.

When only the two names are known

Use matching by name. That method relies on the Namakaran convention linking the first sound of a name to a Nakshatra. It is a fallback, not an equivalent replacement for recorded birth details.

What a marriage match cannot decide

No score measures consent, safety, shared goals, health, financial habits or conflict skills. Use the output to identify questions worth discussing, never as an automatic approval or rejection of a marriage.

This page is the canonical full birth-chart match. Its result shows the eight-Koota score, both D1 and D9 charts, and the separate dosha checks together. The Gun Milan guide goes deeper into why the 36 points are weighted unevenly, while the Manglik calculator explains Mars and its cancellation rules for one chart.

What the eight Kootas compare—and what they leave out.

Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi contribute one to eight points respectively. Together they create the familiar Guna Milan score out of 36.

Moon and Nakshatra create the score

Ashtakoota is primarily a comparison of the two Moon signs and birth Nakshatras. The result shows both partners’ underlying attribute in every Koota so a zero or partial score is not hidden behind the total.

Birth time adds wider chart context

The exact time and place establish Lagna, houses, the D1 Rashi chart and D9 Navamsa chart. Those charts support the separate Mangal and relationship reading; they do not silently add points to the classical 36.

18 is a reference, not permission

Eighteen Gunas is a commonly quoted threshold. A score above it is not proof of a healthy marriage, and a score below it is not proof of failure. The distribution, traditional exceptions and real relationship all matter.

A chart comparison can raise questions. It cannot choose a partner.

Traditional matching compares defined Moon-based factors and selected dosha patterns. It cannot measure kindness, consent, shared goals, financial habits, safety or how two people repair conflict.

The classical score

The eight Kutas add up to 36 points. Eighteen is a common reference threshold, but it is not a universal approval line; the distribution of points gives the total its context.

Our synthesis

The six relationship areas translate calculated patterns into discussion prompts. They are Swarn Siddhi’s interpretation layer, not six additional parts of classical Ashtakoot.

Dosha context

Mangal, Nadi and Bhakoot deserve context. Traditional cancellation rules can materially change how a flagged combination is interpreted. To check one chart on its own, use the Manglik dosha calculator.

Only the dates of birth

Without birth times the match can still be read from the Moon on each date. The compatibility by date of birth page scores every possible combination and marks which kootas the dates settle and which a birth time would change.

Common matching questions

Is 18 out of 36 enough for marriage?

Eighteen is a commonly used traditional threshold, not a pass-fail rule. Read the eight Kutas, dosha checks and relationship dimensions instead of judging the match from one number.

Why does the form say male and female partner?

Classical Ashtakoot scoring contains directional rules and traditionally calculates the groom's chart first. The labels keep that calculation order explicit; they are not a statement about the value of either partner.

Does a low score mean the relationship will fail?

No. Guna Milan measures a defined set of traditional chart factors. It does not measure love, effort, safety, shared values or communication in real life.

How does Kundli matching by name and date of birth work?

The names label the two charts. The dates, exact times and birth places calculate each person's Moon, Nakshatra, Lagna and houses, which are then used for Guna Milan and the wider compatibility checks.

Can I match Kundlis when I only know the names?

Yes, on the separate matching-by-name tool, but it relies on the traditional assumption that each name began with its birth-Nakshatra sound. Use full birth details whenever they are available.

What are the eight Kootas in Ashtakoota Milan?

They are Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi. Their maximum scores rise from one to eight and together total 36 points.

Why can two Kundli matching websites show different scores?

Results can differ when birth details, location, ayanamsha, Nakshatra boundary handling or a directional scoring rule differs. This page identifies its chart method and shows every Koota value so the calculation can be inspected.
