Pitra Dosh Calculator

Enter a birth date, exact time and place to check the six classical Pitra Dosha combinations, each shown for your chart. Worked example (2 November 1975, 18:45, New Delhi): Pitra Dosha is indicated: Sun and Rahu in the same sign.

  • States the six combinations it checks
  • Shows each one for your chart, present or not
  • Birth details are used for this result only and are not stored

Date, exact time and place. The check runs on the server from these values and nothing is stored.

A Lagna changes about every two hours, so the house numbers below depend on the time. If the recorded time is approximate, read the houses as approximate too.

Your details are used to compute this result and are not saved. They are sent in the body of the request, never in the page address, and the page worked out from them is never cached or indexed, so nobody else receives your chart.

How the Pitra Dosh Calculator Decides

Pitra Dosha has no single agreed definition; astrologers count different combinations. This calculator checks these six classical ones, and reports the dosha when any one of them is present:

  • The Sun and Rahu in the same sign — the Sun signifies the father and the lineage, and Rahu is read as eclipsing it.
  • The Sun and Ketu in the same sign.
  • Rahu, Ketu or Saturn in the 9th house from the Lagna — the house of father, teachers and dharma.
  • The Sun in the 9th house with Rahu or Ketu, which the tradition singles out.

Houses are whole-sign (the Lagna's sign is the 1st house) and positions are sidereal (Lahiri). The app's Doshas card runs the same check through the same engine.

Why Pitra Dosha Readings Differ

  • Some astrologers add a Moon-Rahu conjunction, malefic aspects on Jupiter or the placement of the 9th lord. This calculator does not count those, and the list above says exactly what it does count.
  • The longer the list, the more charts qualify — so no single indicator is proof of a personal misfortune.
  • The full background is in the Pitra Dosha guide.

Pitra Dosha Practices

The traditional responses are acts of remembrance, and most cost nothing: tarpan on Amavasya, shraddha during Pitru Paksha, feeding people who need a meal, and offering water to the Sun in the morning. Amavasya dates are listed month by month. Expensive pujas are optional, never required.

Pitra Dosh Calculator FAQ

What is Pitra Dosha?

Pitra Dosha, also written Pitru Dosha, is a chart condition traditionally read as an unresolved duty to one's ancestors. It is identified by a family of combinations involving the Sun, the lunar nodes, Saturn and the 9th house.

How do I check Pitra Dosha in my Kundli?

Enter your date, exact time and place of birth above. The calculator checks six combinations — the Sun with Rahu or Ketu, Rahu, Ketu or Saturn in the 9th house, and the Sun with a node in the 9th — and shows each one for your chart.

Which rule does this calculator use?

Any of six classical combinations: the Sun and Rahu in one sign, the Sun and Ketu in one sign, Rahu, Ketu or Saturn in the 9th house, or the Sun with Rahu or Ketu in the 9th.

Is Pitra Dosha common?

Yes. With the combinations this calculator checks, roughly one chart in three shows at least one, which is why it should not be read as a personal curse.

Does Pitra Dosha need the exact birth time?

The Sun-Rahu and Sun-Ketu checks need only the date. The 9th-house checks depend on the Lagna, which changes about every two hours, so they need the exact time.

What should I do if Pitra Dosha is present?

Nothing urgent. Many families keep Pitru Paksha shraddha and Amavasya tarpan regardless of any chart. If a practice matters to you, choose a free or affordable one, and treat any fear-based sales pitch with suspicion.
