How can Kundli matching work from names alone?
In the Namakaran ceremony a child is named beginning with the sound assigned to the Nakshatra pada the Moon occupied at birth. The name therefore carries the birth star. All eight kootas are read from the Nakshatra and the Rashi that follows from it, so no birth time is needed once the Nakshatra is known.
Is gun milan by name accurate?
It is an estimate based on the assumption that both names were chosen from traditional Nakshatra syllables. The calculator cannot verify that history from a spelling. When birth details are known, use them to calculate the actual Moon positions instead.
Why does it ask me to choose a Nakshatra?
Thirteen of the hundred naming sounds are claimed by more than one Nakshatra, because the classical table reuses them. Rather than pick one silently, you are asked — which is what an astrologer would do.

What is a good Gun Milan score?
Out of 36, an 18 or above is conventionally treated as workable and 24 and above as strong. The number is a summary, not a verdict — the individual kootas, and Nadi in particular, usually matter more to an astrologer than the total.
What if my name does not match a Nakshatra syllable?
