How to Take a Vastu Compass Reading
- Stand at the centre of the home, or in the frame of the main door.
- Hold the phone flat, screen up, with its top edge pointing where you want the direction.
- Keep a little away from iron, appliances and speakers.
- Read from two or three spots; if they disagree a lot, calibrate by moving the phone in a figure of eight.
Magnetic North and True North
A compass reads magnetic north, but Vastu zones are counted from true (geographic) north. The difference — magnetic declination — changes with place and year; across India it is about −1° to +2°. This page uses the same World Magnetic Model as the app's compass.

How do I use the online Vastu compass?
Open this page on a phone, tap Start compass (an iPhone asks for permission), hold the phone flat and point its top edge where you want the direction. The dial shows the 16 zones, and the lines below name the zone and the door position.
Is a phone compass accurate enough for Vastu?
It reads magnetic north, which differs from true north by your place's declination — about −1° to +2° across India. This page adds that correction from the World Magnetic Model. Read it away from iron, appliances and speakers.
Why does the compass not work on a computer?
Desktops and laptops have no orientation sensor. Read a bearing from a handheld compass and type it below; the page names the zone and door position.
How do I find the direction of my main door?
Stand inside the door frame looking out, hold the phone flat and read the bearing. That bearing is what decides the door position.
