Mars placement, checked with its cancellations
Manglik Dosha calculator that shows more than a yes or no.
Calculate whether Mars raises Mangal Dosha from the Lagna, Moon or Venus—and see the classical cancellation conditions that may change how the placement is read.
- Checks all six traditionally flagged houses
- Separates accepted and disputed cancellations
- Birth details are calculated for this result and not saved
Checking this for marriage? Compare both birth charts. Manglik status is only one part of compatibility.
Placement check
What raises it in this chart
Mars is checked from the Lagna, Moon and Venus. The number and source of the flags matter more than an isolated label.
Bhanga check
What modifies or cancels it
A disputed tag means Jyotish traditions do not apply that cancellation uniformly. It is shown rather than silently accepted.
Meaning and terminology
Mangal Dosha, Manglik Dosha, Kuja Dosha and Chevvai Dosham describe the same check.
The regional name changes; the core question remains whether Mars occupies a traditionally flagged house from one or more reference points.
The placement rule
The six houses traditionally associated with Mangal Dosha.
Schools differ on reference points and exceptions, but these house positions are the common starting set.
- 1st house
Self and temperament
Mars is read through personal drive, heat and reactivity.
- 2nd house
Family and speech
The placement is connected with family dynamics and communication.
- 4th house
Home and emotional base
Traditional readings focus on domestic stability and inner ease.
- 7th house
Partnership
Mars directly occupies the house used for committed relationships.
- 8th house
Shared life and vulnerability
The focus moves to joint resources, trust and major transitions.
- 12th house
Rest, privacy and intimacy
The placement is traditionally read through private and shared space.
How this calculator works
Placement first, cancellation second, context last.
- 01
Calculate Mars and the houses
Your date, exact time and city establish the chart and the houses Mars occupies from each reference point.
- 02
Check the raising rules
The engine checks the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th houses from Lagna, Moon and Venus.
- 03
Apply cancellations transparently
Own-sign, exaltation and Jupiter-related rules are reported with contested interpretations clearly marked.
Why calculators disagree
A placement can be real while its severity is disputed.
Some tools stop after finding Mars in a flagged house. Others count only from the Lagna. A useful result shows the rule, the reference point and the cancellation instead of collapsing all of them into one alarming label.
Placement-only result
- Reports one yes-or-no label
- May omit Moon and Venus reference points
- Often hides cancellation rules
This calculator's result
- Names every reference point that raises it
- Lists the cancellation applied
- Marks disputed rules instead of disguising them
Common questions
Manglik Dosha, answered without the alarm.
What is Mangal Dosha?
Mars occupying the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house is called Mangal Dosha, Kuja Dosha, or being Manglik. The tradition counts those houses from the Lagna, and in stricter practice from the Moon and Venus as well.
Can Mangal Dosha be cancelled?
Yes, and the classical texts describe the cancellations at length. Mars in its own sign (Aries or Scorpio), Mars exalted in Capricorn, or Jupiter sitting with or aspecting Mars are all held to neutralise it. This calculator reports which ones apply to your chart.
Is being Manglik a problem for marriage?
The tradition uses it comparatively, not as a verdict. It compares one chart against another, and a Manglik placement in one is routinely read as balanced by the same placement in the other. It is one factor among many in Kundli matching, not a disqualification.
Why do different websites give me different answers?
Because the traditions genuinely differ. Some count Mars only from the Lagna; others count from the Moon and Venus too, which flags far more charts. Some accept a cancellation that others reject. Where that happens here, the disagreement is shown rather than hidden.
Do I need my exact birth time?
Yes. Mars stays in one sign for weeks, but the houses rotate through the full circle every day, and this dosha is defined by house. An hour's error can change the answer.
