Time and place work as a pair because the local clock needs a timezone. Leave both blank if they are not known; the result will automatically use the numerology path.

How the result is built
A missing birth time should change the method, not lower the accuracy of the same method.
The Moon moves through 27 Nakshatras, each divided into four padas. The pada at the local birth instant carries one traditional naming sound. Regional tables sometimes give two valid readings, such as Va and Ba; when that happens both are shown as separate groups rather than silently choosing one.
When only the date is available, Mulank comes from the day and Bhagyank from the complete date. Each cited name receives a Chaldean name number and is ranked by matches and friendly-number relationships. This is numerology, clearly labelled as such; it is not evidence of the child’s Nakshatra.
Every exact-sound name in the sourced corpus appears first. Some rare sounds do not have a hundred responsibly sourced names. In that case the page adds a separate set of numerology-compatible ideas until there are at least 100 choices. Those additions are never described as exact Nakshatra matches.
A plausible meaning is easy to invent and hard for a parent to detect. This finder only uses names from the site’s cited corpus. Each result links to its source, and a Sanskrit lexicon’s unrelated dictionary senses are not repackaged as the meaning of a person’s name.
Browse by Rashi
Open a Rashi guide to compare its nine pada sounds, see which Nakshatras cross a sign boundary, and browse the available cited names.
If you want to understand the full birth-star result first, use the Nakshatra calculator. It explains the deity, ruling planet, gana, nadi, yoni and all four sounds. For the wider chart, the free Kundli adds the Ascendant, houses and planetary positions.
A name chosen from a traditional sound is a family and cultural choice, not a prediction of personality or success; no classical text says it causes anything. Parents can still choose a name because of its meaning, language, a relative, a deity, pronunciation or simply because they love it. This tool provides a structured shortlist; it does not claim that another choice is harmful.
Common questions
The Moon's sidereal longitude for the date you give, which fixes the nakshatra and the pada — the quarter of the nakshatra. Each pada carries one traditional naming sound. That is the whole method, and it is the same one a family astrologer performs by hand.
The finder switches to birth-date numerology. It calculates Mulank and Bhagyank and ranks cited names by their Chaldean name number. It does not guess a Nakshatra, pada or naming sound from incomplete details.
The Moon's longitude is geocentric, but a recorded birth time is a local wall-clock time. The city supplies the correct IANA timezone so the page can convert that local time to the right instant, including daylight-saving transitions outside India.
No. Namakaran is a tradition, and naming a child after a grandparent, a deity or simply a name the parents love is entirely normal. Nothing in the texts treats a name chosen another way as harmful. The only effect is that the name will not carry the birth star.
They come from the site's cited name corpus. Meanings cannot be generated — an invented gloss is a fabrication inside a decision parents make once — so a name is published only when its meaning links to the source it came from, and to a second source saying the word is used as a name. The meanings come from English Wiktionary (CC BY-SA 4.0) and Wikidata (CC0), which is why this list is itself CC BY-SA 4.0 and reusable with credit. The obvious source for thousands more, the Cologne digitisations of Monier-Williams and Apte, carries a licence header granting non-commercial use only, so this site does not republish it. What is listed is what we can show you the receipt for. Exact-sound matches appear first; separately labelled numerology ideas expand thin sound groups without pretending they begin with the assigned sound.
Treat the pada as uncertain by the same amount. A pada is three degrees twenty minutes wide and the Moon crosses it in about six hours, so an hour of doubt is a real share of a pada. Where your window is near a boundary, this page shows both sides rather than rounding.
