Vedic Numerology

Vedic numerology maps the numbers 1 to 9 onto the nine grahas, then reads a date of birth through that map. Two numbers do most of the work — Mulank from the day, Bhagyank from the whole date — and everything else on this page is built on those two.

  • Only the date is used. No name, no birth time, no birth place, and nothing is saved.
  • This is a traditional interpretive framework, not a prediction and not medical, legal or financial advice.

Vedic numerology basics

Vedic numerology does one thing that Chaldean and Pythagorean numerology do not: it attaches every number to a graha and then reads the number the way an astrologer reads the planet. That is why a Mulank 8 page talks about delay and endurance — it is talking about Saturn — and why the lucky colours differ from the ones a Western chart would give. The two values this site computes from a date, Mulank and Bhagyank, are the entry points; the name-based systems live on their own pages and answer their own questions.

Ruling planet for every Mulank and Bhagyank 1 to 9

The planet column is the whole of Vedic numerology in one table. Every reading on this site traces back to it: a Mulank 8 is read through Saturn, a Bhagyank 3 through Jupiter, and the lucky days and colours in the last two columns are the ones traditionally assigned to that graha rather than to the number itself.

Difference between Mulank and Bhagyank

The two numbers are confused constantly, and the confusion is understandable: both come from a birth date, both end in a small number, and plenty of sites print one and label it the other. They are not interchangeable. Mulank is a statement about a day and is shared by everyone born on the 5th, 14th or 23rd of any month in any year. Bhagyank is a statement about a whole date and separates those same people immediately.

Bhagyank 1 to 9 profiles

Bhagyank 1

Bhagyank 1 keeps returning you to situations where nobody else will decide, until you are willing to own the decision.

Bhagyank 2

Bhagyank 2 arranges a life of pairs — partners, co-founders, negotiations. What you build alone tends to stall; what you build with someone moves.

Bhagyank 3

Bhagyank 3 rewards being explained to others. Teaching, advising and publishing open doors that quiet competence alone does not.

Bhagyank 4

Bhagyank 4 gives an unconventional route to an ordinary goal. The straight path keeps closing; the sideways one keeps opening.

Bhagyank 5 keeps moving the ground — cities, roles, markets. Long fixed contracts are the one thing this path handles badly.

Bhagyank 7 rewards depth over breadth. A specialism found late usually outperforms everything attempted before it.

Master numbers 11, 22 and 33 in Bhagyank

Three totals are not reduced further in this tradition. If the digits of your full date add to 11, 22 or 33, the Bhagyank stops there. Eleven is read as the number of insight arriving faster than it can be explained; twenty-two as the builder, a 4 with a much larger frame; thirty-three, which is rare, as service carried at cost. Each also has a root — 2, 4 and 6 respectively — and the honest position is that both readings apply, because a master Bhagyank is a 2 with an intensifier, not a different number entirely. Mulank never keeps a master, since a day of the month cannot produce one.

Mulank and Bhagyank compatibility table

Compatibility in this tradition is a statement about two numbers, not about two people, and it is used for a Mulank-to-Mulank comparison rather than a Mulank-to-Bhagyank one. Five is friendly to all nine and hostile to none. Eight has the largest difficult set. Nobody should end or refuse a relationship over this table, and any practitioner who tells you to has stopped practising numerology and started practising something else.

Vedic numerology behind Mulank and Bhagyank

Indian numerology is a planetary system before it is an arithmetic one. The nine single digits are matched to the nine grahas — 1 to the Sun, 2 to the Moon, 3 to Jupiter, 4 to Rahu, 5 to Mercury, 6 to Venus, 7 to Ketu, 8 to Saturn, 9 to Mars — and once that map is fixed, a number inherits everything the tradition already says about its planet. That is the whole mechanism. When a Mulank 8 page talks about delay, endurance and results that arrive late, it is not making a claim about the digit 8; it is repeating what Jyotisha says about Saturn, applied through the map.

This is why Vedic numerology and the two Western systems disagree so often, and why the disagreement is not a mistake by either side. Chaldean and Pythagorean numerology are letter systems: they convert a name into a number and read the number as a quality. Vedic numerology is primarily a date system, and it reads the number as a planet. A name has no planet, so the systems are answering different questions with the same nine digits. Both are on this site, on separate pages, precisely so that neither has to pretend to be the other.

The reduction rule itself — keep adding digits until one is left — is old, shared across all three systems, and has no mystical justification anybody has ever produced. It is a convention, and it is the same convention that makes a Mulank shared by everyone born on the 5th, 14th and 23rd. What the tradition does with that shared number is where the systems differ; that they arrive at it the same way is simply arithmetic.

Limits of Mulank and Bhagyank readings

Two numbers derived from a date cannot know anything a date does not contain. That sentence rules out most of what these numbers are sold for. Mulank and Bhagyank cannot identify an illness, evaluate a medicine, or tell anyone whether to see a doctor; the health column on the number pages is a list of what the tradition associates with a graha, and it is not a screening tool. They cannot value a business, price a share, or indicate when to buy property. They cannot establish whether two people should marry, and the compatibility table on this page is a statement about two numbers, not two lives.

They also cannot be changed. A name number moves when a spelling moves — that is what name numerology is for — but a date has already happened, and any service offering to correct, upgrade or rectify a Bhagyank is selling something that does not exist. The one honest use of these numbers is the one the tradition actually describes: a vocabulary for noticing a pattern you were half aware of, and a set of practices that are worth doing whether or not the number behind them means anything. Finishing one task, keeping one promise, asking instead of announcing — the remedies on these pages are useful on their own terms, which is the strongest thing that can be said for any of them.

Nothing on this page is a prediction. Where the copy says a Bhagyank arranges circumstances, that is a description of how the tradition reads the number, not a claim that events are fixed. Swarn Siddhi publishes the arithmetic so the reading can be checked, and publishes the limits so the reading is not mistaken for a forecast.

Mulank and Bhagyank questions

What is Vedic numerology?

Vedic or Indian numerology reads numbers through the nine grahas: 1 Sun, 2 Moon, 3 Jupiter, 4 Rahu, 5 Mercury, 6 Venus, 7 Ketu, 8 Saturn, 9 Mars. Its two primary values, Mulank and Bhagyank, come from the date of birth alone.

How is Vedic numerology different from Chaldean and Pythagorean?

Chaldean and Pythagorean are letter systems: they convert a name into a number. Vedic numerology is primarily a date system and attaches each number to a graha. This site runs all three, on separate pages, because they answer separate questions.

Does Vedic numerology need a birth chart?

No. Everything on this hub is computed from a date, with no birth time and no birth place. The kundli is a separate calculation on a separate page and the two are never mixed here.
