Numerology from a date of birth is not a hidden calculation. It is two sums and a rule about when to stop, and you can reproduce every figure on this page with a pen.
Mulank: the day, and only the day
Take the day of the month and add its digits until one digit is left. Born on the 4th, your Mulank is 4. Born on the 27th, 2 plus 7 is 9. Born on the 29th, 2 plus 9 is 11, and 1 plus 1 is 2. Mulank is always between 1 and 9 — no day from 1 to 31 can survive as a master number, because the reduction here does not stop at 11, 22 or 33. Your month and year are ignored completely.
Bhagyank: every digit of the date
Write the date as year, month, day and add all eight digits. For 27 August 1994 that is 1 plus 9 plus 9 plus 4 plus 0 plus 8 plus 2 plus 7, which is 40; then 4 plus 0 is 4. So that date carries Mulank 9 and Bhagyank 4 — the two numbers are independent, and disagreeing is normal rather than a warning sign.
Where 11, 22 and 33 survive
Bhagyank stops if the running total lands on a master number. Take 29 September 1989: the digits add to 47, and 4 plus 7 is 11, so the answer is 11 rather than 2. This only happens on the way down, which is why it appears in Bhagyank and never in Mulank. Use the four-digit year — entering 89 instead of 1989 quietly changes the total and gives a different, wrong answer.
Personal year: your date plus the year in question
Add your birth day and birth month to the calendar year you are asking about, then reduce to one digit. Someone born on 27 August always carries 27 plus 8, which is 35, and only the year changes. This page uses the calendar year, so the number turns over on 1 January rather than on your birthday — some practitioners switch on the birthday instead, and will give you a different answer for part of the year.
What a date cannot know
Roughly one person in nine shares your Mulank and roughly one in nine your Bhagyank, so somewhere near one person in eighty carries both of your numbers. That is millions of people. Nothing here uses your birth time or your birth place, which is why it cannot separate twins and why it is not a birth chart — if you want the positions of the planets at the minute you were born, that is the free Kundli, and it is a different calculation entirely. Treat what follows as a way of describing tendencies you already recognise, not as a forecast of events.

Why the planets are not the astronomical ones
The planet column follows the Indian and Cheiro convention, which gives Rahu to 4 and Ketu to 7. Rahu and Ketu are the Moon's nodes, not bodies, so no telescope will confirm this pairing. It is a mapping the tradition asserts, and it is worth knowing that it is an assertion rather than an observation.
Days and colours are convention, dates are not
The day and colour columns are inherited lists; different schools publish slightly different ones, and none of them has been tested. The date column is the one part of the table anyone can verify — 5, 14 and 23 all reduce to 5 because 14 is 1 plus 4 and 23 is 2 plus 3. If a calculator gives you lucky dates that do not reduce to your Mulank, it is not following the method it claims to.
