The Brahmasthan: Keep the Centre Open
The centre of the plan is the brahmasthan. The tradition keeps it open and light — no pillar, staircase, toilet or kitchen there. In a flat that simply means keeping the middle of the home free of clutter.
How to Draw the Zones on Your Plan
- Fix the centre: where the diagonals cross on a rectangular plan. For an irregular plan, the app's floor-plan Vastu finds the centre for you.
- Measure true north with the compass and draw an arrow on the plan.
- Draw sixteen lines from the centre, every 22.5°, with the north zone 11.25° either side of north.
- Check each room against the table; do not break structure for what cannot change.
Want a full report from your own plan? Scan or draw it in the app, or see the Vastu house report.
Vastu is a traditional framework for arranging a home, not a guarantee of health, wealth or any outcome. Never change the structure of a building on a direction alone; ask a qualified engineer.
Questions people ask
How do I make a house plan as per Vastu?
Fix the centre of the plan (the brahmasthan), align it to true north and draw sixteen 22.5° zones. Then put each room in its preferred direction from the table above, falling back to an acceptable one where you must.
Where should the main door be in a Vastu home plan?
The room rules prefer the North, Northeast and East and accept the Northwest and West. For the exact position along the wall, see the facing-house guides.
What is the brahmasthan?
The centre of the home. The tradition keeps it open and free — no pillar, staircase, toilet or kitchen there.
Do the same rules apply to a flat?
Yes, on your flat's own plan rather than the building's. Leave what cannot change, and put what can move — the bed, the desk, the safe — in the right zone.
