Softening conditions in this chart
- Jupiter aspects Saturn from the 2nd house, which the tradition reads as easing the dosha.
- Saturn is in its own sign in Capricorn; a strong planet is read as less affected.
Some traditions treat these as cancelling the dosha, others as softening it. This calculator lists them; it does not subtract them.
This combination is common: it appears in about one chart in sixteen. Read it as one feature of the chart, not as proof of a personal misfortune.
How the Shrapit Dosh Calculator Decides
- Your date, time and place give the sidereal (Lahiri) positions of Saturn and Rahu, and the whole-sign houses from your Lagna.
- Shrapit Dosha is reported when Saturn and Rahu are in the same sign.
- The degrees between them are printed: a close pair is read as stronger.
- The softening conditions astrologers cite are checked and listed: Jupiter joining or aspecting Saturn, and Saturn in its own sign (Capricorn, Aquarius) or exalted (Libra).
- The app's Doshas card applies the same rule through the same engine.
Where Shrapit Dosha Readings Differ
- A modern name. Shrapit means cursed. The term does not appear in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Phaladeepika or Jataka Parijata; like Kaal Sarp, it became common in the last century.
- Aspects. Some also count Saturn's aspect on Rahu (its 3rd, 7th or 10th aspect). The result notes it when present, but it is not counted.
- The past-life story. The idea that the pair shows a curse from a past life is a modern interpretation, not a classical rule.
- Mean or true node. The two ways of computing Rahu differ by up to about 1.5°, which can move a pair at a sign's edge.
What Shrapit Dosha Does Not Mean
Despite the name, it is not proof of a curse, and it does not foretell poverty, childlessness or a broken marriage. Saturn and Rahu are both slow, so when they meet they stay together for months, and about one chart in sixteen carries the pair. Read it, if at all, as a call for patience and steady effort — Saturn's own lessons.
Shrapit Dosha Practices
The traditional responses are free: the Hanuman Chalisa or the Shani mantra on Saturdays, service to elders and to people who do hard physical work, and honest, patient effort. A paid Shrapit puja is optional, never required.
