- Rahu only, or Ketu too. The common definition is Jupiter with Rahu. The app also counts Ketu, and the result says which node it found.
- Aspects. Some count Rahu's aspect on Jupiter without a conjunction. The result notes it, but it is not counted.
- A strong Jupiter. Jupiter in its own or exaltation sign is widely read as overcoming Rahu, so many astrologers say the dosha does not apply at all.
- Not only negative. Jupiter with Rahu is also read as learning outside tradition: research, technology, foreign teachers and unconventional paths.
What Guru Chandal Dosha Does Not Mean
It does not mean a person lacks ethics, will be cheated by a teacher or will have trouble with children. Jupiter spends about a year in a sign and the nodes about eighteen months, so the pair forms for months at a time and about one chart in six carries it. Classical texts such as Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and Phaladeepika do not name this dosha; the name and its usual reading are later.
