Nadi and Bhakoot Dosha Result
Nadi dosha present
Nadi dosha: both stars are Antya (Kapha) nadi — Rohini (Taurus) and Krittika (Taurus). Nadi scores 0 of 8.
Classical exceptions that apply (2):
- Same Moon sign but different nakshatra
- Both Moon signs share the same ruling planet
The matching report lists these beside the dosha and does not change the score, as AstroSage scores it; many astrologers read them as softening or cancelling it.
No Bhakoot dosha
No Bhakoot dosha: the Moon signs Taurus and Taurus are 1-1 (the same sign) apart. Bhakoot scores 7 of 7.
| Koota | Points | Out of |
|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 |
| Vashya | 2 | 2 |
| Tara | 3 | 3 |
| Yoni | 2 | 4 |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | 5 |
| Gana | 0 | 6 |
| Bhakut | 7 | 7 |
| Nadi | 0 | 8 |
| Total | 20 | 36 |
Every koota of Guna Milan reads only the two Moon nakshatras and signs, so this is the score for these stars. Gun Milan adds Manglik and the other chart checks from full birth details.
How the Nadi Dosha Calculator Works
- Nadi (8 points). Each nakshatra belongs to one of three nadis — Aadi (Vata), Madhya (Pitta) or Antya (Kapha). The same nadi for both Moons scores 0 and is Nadi dosha; different nadis score 8.
- Bhakoot (7 points). Count from one Moon sign to the other and back. A 2-12, 6-8 or 5-9 spacing scores 0 and is Bhakoot dosha; any other spacing scores 7.
- The exceptions. Same Moon sign with different nakshatras, the same nakshatra with different Moon signs, one lord for both Moon signs, or two lords that are mutual friends. They are listed exactly as the site's matching report applies them, beside the dosha, never hidden.
- The scores come from the same Ashtakoot engine as the kundli matching report, so the two never disagree for the same stars.
The Three Nadis and Their Nakshatras
| Nadi | Nakshatras |
|---|---|
| Aadi (Vata) | Ashwini, Ardra, Punarvasu, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Jyeshtha, Mula, Shatabhisha, Purva Bhadrapada |
| Madhya (Pitta) | Bharani, Mrigashira, Pushya, Purva Phalguni, Chitra, Anuradha, Purva Ashadha, Dhanishta, Uttara Bhadrapada |
| Antya (Kapha) | Krittika, Rohini, Ashlesha, Magha, Swati, Vishakha, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana, Revati |
Nine nakshatras straddle two signs — Krittika is Aries in its first pada and Taurus in the other three — which is why the form asks for the Moon sign with the star: Bhakoot and two of the exceptions read the sign.
Where Nadi and Bhakoot Readings Differ
- Score or cancel. This calculator, like AstroSage and the matching report, keeps the 0 and lists the exceptions. Many astrologers instead treat an exception as cancelling the dosha and restore the points.
- The 5-9 axis. Many schools read the trinal 5-9 spacing as mild or not a dosha at all; the result says so when it applies.
- Same nakshatra. Some traditions accept the same nakshatra in different padas as an exception to Nadi dosha; the matching report counts a different Moon sign, not a different pada.
- Regional practice. South Indian matching (porutham) uses Rajju and Vedha instead of Nadi as the deciding check.
What Nadi Dosha Does Not Mean
Nadi dosha is read in the tradition as a caution about shared constitution and children. It is not a medical finding and does not predict illness, infertility or an unhappy marriage; one couple in three shares a nadi by chance. The Nadi dosha guide covers the background and the remedies families choose.
Nadi Dosha Calculator FAQ
What is Nadi dosha?
Nadi dosha is when both partners' Moon nakshatras belong to the same nadi — Aadi, Madhya or Antya. In Guna Milan the Nadi koota then scores 0 of 8 instead of 8.
How do I check Nadi dosha?
Choose each partner's Moon nakshatra and Moon sign above, as printed in the janam patri. The calculator gives the Nadi and Bhakoot scores, the exceptions and the Guna Milan total.
What is Bhakoot dosha?
Bhakoot dosha is a 2-12, 6-8 or 5-9 spacing between the two Moon signs. The Bhakoot koota then scores 0 of 7. Many schools treat the 5-9 spacing as mild.
When is Nadi dosha cancelled?
The exceptions the matching report applies are: the same Moon sign with different nakshatras, the same nakshatra with different Moon signs, one lord for both Moon signs, or two lords that are mutual friends.
Is Nadi dosha a problem for health or children?
The tradition reads it as a caution about shared constitution and progeny, but it is not a medical finding. About one couple in three shares a nadi by chance.
I don't know my nakshatra. What should I do?
Use the nakshatra calculator with your birth details, or match both full charts on the Gun Milan page, which computes both stars and all eight kootas.
