Personal Year Number Calculator
Numerology reads time in nine-year cycles. A 1 year opens something; a 9 year closes it. Knowing which one you are in is the most practical thing numerology offers.

The arithmetic
How a personal year is worked out.
There is no lookup table and no secret step. It is one addition, done on numbers you already know.
Take the day you were born, the month you were born, and the year you are asking about. Add all three together, then keep adding the digits of the result until a single digit is left. Your birth year is deliberately not part of it — that is what makes this number move while your Mulank and Bhagyank stand still.
Someone born on 14 March, asking about 2026: 14 plus 3 plus 2026 gives 2043. Add those digits — 2 plus 0 plus 4 plus 3 — and you get 9. That person is in a 9 personal year, the last of a cycle, and on 1 January they move to a 1. The same working done digit by digit gives the same answer, which is a useful check: 1 plus 4 is 5 for the day, 3 for the month, and 2 plus 0 plus 2 plus 6 is 10 which reduces to 1. Five plus three plus one is nine.
Two smaller numbers extend the same idea. A personal month adds the calendar month to your personal year and reduces again; a personal day adds the calendar date to your personal month. They are used the way a weather forecast is used next to a season — the year sets the character, the month and day only shade it.
Master numbers are not preserved here. Where a life path keeps an 11, 22 or 33 unreduced, a personal year is always taken down to 1 through 9, because the cycle it describes has exactly nine positions.

What each of the nine years asks for

The nine-year cycle, in order
Year
Theme
What it opens
What it warns against
1
Beginnings and seed-planting
Fresh direction, a changed identity, independent choices and new starts. Small bets made now compound across the whole cycle.
Rushing a decision only to prove that you are independent.
2
Patience and partnerships
Alliances, negotiation, emotional maturity and slow consolidation of what year 1 started.
Over-adjusting yourself to keep everyone else comfortable.
3
Expression and visibility
Publishing, presenting, teaching, networking. Reputation built in a 3 year tends to keep paying out afterwards.
Scattering energy across more ideas than you can finish.
4
Foundations and hard work
Structure, savings, routines, systems and training. Unglamorous by design.
Shortcuts, and quiet resentment toward the routine itself.
5
Change and adventure
Travel, pivots, marketing, mobility and fresh experience after the discipline of a 4.
Careless commitments and impulsive spending.
6
Family and responsibility
Home, service, beauty, and the repair of relationships that were neglected while the cycle was moving fast.
Carrying every responsibility on your own.
7
Reflection and inner work
Study, research, retreat, specialisation. Less external motion, more depth.
Isolation, and analysis that never turns into a decision.
8
Power and material harvest
Money, authority, assets and accountability. The year the earlier work is most likely to be paid for.
Power struggles and speculative risk.
9
Closure and release
Finishing, forgiving, donating, decluttering and closing loops so the next 1 starts clean.
Holding on to something that is already ending.
Why the boundary is argued about
One school changes your personal year on 1 January; another changes it on your birthday, and a third blends the two across the months in between. This page uses the calendar year, which is why the result says so on its face. If you were born late in the year and the description feels like it belongs to the year you have just left, the birthday convention is probably the one that fits you — run the calculation again using the previous year and compare.
Why 9 does not mean a bad year
Nothing in the cycle is ranked. A 9 is described as a closing year because what it rewards is finishing, and a 4 feels slow because what it rewards is structure. Difficulty in a numerological year usually comes from working against the phase — launching in a 9, or refusing to build in a 4 — rather than from the phase being unlucky.
What it cannot tell you
A personal year is a nine-position pattern derived from a date. It has no access to your job, your health, your money or anyone else’s decisions, and it cannot name an event or a month in which one will happen. Anyone using this number to promise a specific outcome has left the tradition behind. Use it as a prompt for how to spend a year, not as a forecast of what the year will do to you.
Two people, same year, different lives
Everyone born on the same day and month is in the same personal year as you. That is not a flaw in the method, it is the scope of it: the number describes a phase, and a phase is a shared thing. What differs is the birth number and life path it lands on, which is why the result above shows those alongside the year rather than on their own page.
Personal year questions
When does my personal year change?
Most practitioners change it on 1 January; some change it on your birthday. This page uses the calendar year, and says so on the result.
What does a 9 personal year mean?
It is read as the closing year of a cycle - finishing, clearing and letting go, rather than starting something new. The following year is a 1.
Is a particular year unlucky?
No year in the cycle is treated as bad. Each is described as asking for something different, and difficulty usually comes from working against the phase rather than from the phase itself.

All of them, read together
One number is a fact. The set is a reading.
This page computes one number and shows its working, which is what it is for. The Numerology Report takes the same name and date and reads the whole set against each other — the two date numbers, the three name numbers, the Lo Shu grid, any karmic debt before reduction, and where the nine-year cycle currently sits. It is the one page in this set that costs anything, its price is in coins rather than rupees, and every figure inside it can still be checked free on the calculator that computes it.
