Navratri 2027 dates — Ghatasthapana to Navami

Sharad Navratri 2027 runs from Ghatasthapana on 30 September 2027, Thursday to 8 October 2027, Friday, with Dussehra on 9 October 2027, Saturday. The nine colours, in order: Yellow, Green, Grey, Orange, White, Red, Royal blue, Pink, Purple.

The nine days are nine calendar days, counted from Ghatasthapana to the eve of Vijayadashami. The tithi column shows which tithi is running at each sunrise in New Delhi: when one tithi spans two sunrises (a vriddhi) it appears on two rows, and a tithi that touches no sunrise (a kshaya) is named on the day it passes through. The day count and the colours follow the calendar; the pujas follow the tithi.

How the Navratri colours are decided

Day one takes the colour of the weekday Navratri opens on, and each day after it takes its own weekday's colour. Nine days hold only seven weekdays, so days 8 and 9 fall on weekdays already used — those two take the weekday's second colour instead, and no colour repeats. That is why the order changes every year: it follows the weekday Ghatasthapana falls on. This is the list most calendars and newspapers publish; some Gujarati and Marathi papers print their own order, and where your family follows one of those, follow it.

Navratri colours 2027 — common questions

What are the nine Navratri colours for 2027?

1. 30 September 2027 Yellow, 2. 1 October 2027 Green, 3. 2 October 2027 Grey, 4. 3 October 2027 Orange, 5. 4 October 2027 White, 6. 5 October 2027 Red, 7. 6 October 2027 Royal blue, 8. 7 October 2027 Pink, 9. 8 October 2027 Purple. Days 1-7 take their weekday's colour; days 8 and 9 take their weekday's second colour, so none repeats.

When does Navratri 2027 start?

Ghatasthapana is on 30 September 2027, Thursday and the ninth day is 8 October 2027, Friday.

Why are the colours different every year?

Because the first colour follows the weekday Navratri opens on, and that weekday changes every year, so the whole sequence shifts.

Is the colour list scriptural?

No. It is a popular convention rather than an astrological calculation — the dates come from the ephemeris, the colours from custom. Several regions publish their own order, and where your family keeps one of those, that is the one to follow.
