A printed kundli is a square of signs and planet names, and reading it means knowing where to look. This one answers when you tap it. A house shows what it covers, the planets sitting in it and the planets that cast their drishti on it. A planet shows its sign, its strength and the houses it rules. Try it on the sample chart below, then make your own.
Tap a house to open its panel: what it covers, its sign and ruler, the planets in it and the drishti it receives. The gold rays are the drishti its planets cast, the dashed ones are drishti coming in, and the dotted gold path follows the house's lord from house to house. Tap a planet or a yoga for its own panel. Switch North and South at the top, D1 to D7 above the chart, and turn on Sky to see where the planets are moving today.
Each of the twelve houses is one area of life, counted from the lagna, the sign rising at birth. These cards use the same words as the chart's house panel, and each links to a longer guide to that house. The twelve houses page reads them side by side.
How do you show up in the world, and how well does your body carry you?
What do you hold on to, what do you value, and how do you speak?
Where do you find the nerve to try something new, and who walks beside you?
Where do you feel safe, and what makes a place feel like home?
What lights you up: the things you make, the people you love, the ideas you chase?
How do you handle problems, routines and the people who push against you?
Who do you choose to build a life, or a business, with?
What changes you from the inside, and what do you share only in trust?
What do you believe in, and who teaches you how to live?
What work do you want to be known for?
What are you hoping for, and who helps you get there?
Where do you spend yourself, and what helps you let go?
Drishti means sight. In Vedic astrology a planet does not act only on the house it sits in; it also looks at other houses, counted from its own, and colours what happens there. That is why a house with no planet in it is not idle: its ruler and the planets looking at it carry its story.
Every planet looks at the seventh house from itself. Three have a special drishti as well: Mars also looks at the fourth and eighth, Jupiter at the fifth and ninth, and Saturn at the third and tenth. This chart gives Rahu and Ketu the fifth, seventh and ninth, as many schools do. Drishti here is counted by whole houses, not degrees, and it runs one way: Saturn looking at your tenth house does not mean the tenth looks back at Saturn.
The short badge on a ray (7th, 8th) names the drishti; the panel says it in full. The guide to graha drishti explains the rules and where the schools differ.
D1, the rashi chart, is the birth chart itself: the twelve houses from the lagna, with every planet where it was. Drishti, house lords, dashas and yogas are all read from D1. The divisional charts cut each sign into smaller parts and place the planets again, each for one subject:
Pick one above the chart and the planets glide to their houses in it; the panel then shows where each planet sits in that chart and how comfortable it is there. Drishti and lords stay with D1, as the classical texts read them. Each has its own calculator with the full table: navamsa (D9), dasamsa (D10) and saptamsa (D7).
Turn on Sky and a ring appears round the chart with the planets as they stand in the sky on the date below it, today to begin with. Each moving planet sits beside the house of the chart it is passing through, counted from the lagna.
Drag the slider to any date from the birth to 2100, step a month at a time with the arrow keys, or press play to watch the years go by. Tap a moving planet and the house it is crossing opens; that house's panel then adds what is in the sky on the date: the planets passing through it and the ones looking at it.
Under the slider sit the dasha periods running on that date, and Sade Sati or Dhaiya when Saturn is in that phase from the Moon. The dates come from the same engine as the Vimshottari dasha calculator, and Sade Sati has its own page.
Two more switches sit above the chart. SAV heat shades each house by its Sarvashtakavarga points, the supporting points its sign receives from the planets: the more points, the easier the results there tend to come. Strength puts a halo round each planet, sized by its Shad Bala in rupas. Night view darkens the chart area alone, for reading it in a dim room. The Sarvashtakavarga and Shadbala calculators show the numbers behind both.
Yes. The sample and your own chart, here or on the free Kundli page, are both free, with no sign-in.
No. The chart is calculated when you submit the form and drawn in your browser. Nothing is saved to an account, and your birth details never appear in the page address, so no link or browser history carries them.
A solid gold line is drishti cast from the house you tapped, a violet line with a star is a special drishti, and a dashed line is drishti coming into that house. The dotted gold path is the lord chain: from the house to the house its ruler sits in, and on from there.
Each divisional chart places the planets again, with its own lagna, so they land in different houses. Drishti and house lords are still read from D1, the birth chart.
Whichever you learned to read. The placements are the same. The North Indian chart keeps the houses in place and moves the signs; the South Indian chart keeps the signs in place and moves the houses.
Yes, in the Swarn Siddhi app, where the AI astrologer reads your saved chart. The Ask AI button here shows the way there, with your question written out.
It uses the same engine as the free Kundli: sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsha and whole-sign houses. The birth time matters most, because the lagna changes about every two hours and every house moves with it.
Use the form above the sample to open your own chart on this page. The free Kundli page draws the same chart and adds a written reading: your lagna, Moon sign, dasha periods and yogas.
