Yogini dasha is a 36-year cycle of eight yoginis: Mangala (Moon, 1), Pingala (Sun, 2), Dhanya (Jupiter, 3), Brahmari (Mars, 4), Bhadrika (Mercury, 5), Ulka (Saturn, 6), Siddha (Venus, 7), Sankata (Rahu, 8). The first yogini is found by adding 3 to the birth nakshatra's number and taking the remainder after dividing by 8, and, as in Vimshottari, only the unexpired part of the first period is lived. This Moon is in Vishakha, so life began in Dhanya (Jupiter).
Today Dhanya yogini dasha is running (until 16 January 2029), with Bhadrika as its sub-period (until 16 January 2027).

Vimshottari dasha is a 120-year cycle shared between nine planets in a fixed order: Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury. Each planet rules three of the 27 nakshatras, and the nakshatras cycle through the nine lords in that same order three times.
Where the cycle starts is decided by the Moon's nakshatra at birth. The lord of the nakshatra the Moon occupied gives the first mahadasha of life. It is not lived in full: the share of the nakshatra the Moon had already crossed is treated as the share of that mahadasha already spent before birth. The remainder — the balance of dasha — starts at birth, and every mahadasha after it runs its full length.
The longest mahadasha is Venus's (20 years) and the shortest is the Sun's (6 years).
| Planet (in order) | Mahadasha years | Nakshatras it rules |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Ketu | 7 | Ashwini, Magha, Mula |
| 2. Venus | 20 | Bharani, Purva Phalguni, Purva Ashadha |
| 3. Sun | 6 | Krittika, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha |
| 4. Moon | 10 | Rohini, Hasta, Shravana |
| 5. Mars | 7 | Mrigashira, Chitra, Dhanishta |
| 6. Rahu | 18 | Ardra, Swati, Shatabhisha |
| 7. Jupiter | 16 | Punarvasu, Vishakha, Purva Bhadrapada |
| 8. Saturn | 19 | Pushya, Anuradha, Uttara Bhadrapada |
| 9. Mercury | 17 | Ashlesha, Jyeshtha, Revati |
The arithmetic, every step shown, on the chart above:
Every mahadasha divides into nine antardashas (also called bhuktis), in the same order, starting with the mahadasha's own lord. An antardasha lasts mahadasha years × antardasha lord's years ÷ 120. A pratyantardasha divides an antardasha into nine again by the same rule.
This chart is now in Mercury mahadasha (17 years) and Ketu antardasha (7 years): 17 × 7 ÷ 120 = 0.9917 years, about 362.2 days. The Moon pratyantardasha inside it is 10/120 of that antardasha — about 30.2 days.
One detail matters for the first mahadasha of life: its antardashas that had already finished before birth are not part of the native's life, so the table can show fewer than nine for it. The ones that remain keep their true lengths rather than being stretched to fill the balance.
Every dasha date is fixed by the Moon's degree at the moment of birth. In this chart the Moon was moving 11.89° a day, 0.496° an hour. A nakshatra is 13°20′ wide, so one hour of birth-time error changes the balance of the first mahadasha (Jupiter, 16 years) by about 217 days — and every later date moves by the same amount, because the periods after the first all run at full length.
| Mahadasha running at birth | Days every date moves per hour of birth-time error |
|---|---|
| Ketu | 95 |
| Venus | 272 |
| Sun | 81 |
| Moon | 136 |
| Mars | 95 |
| Rahu | 244 |
| Jupiter | 217 |
| Saturn | 258 |
| Mercury | 231 |
Ayanamsa. The Moon's sidereal degree depends on the ayanamsa. This page uses Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the one most widely used in India. Another ayanamsa moves the Moon by some arc-minutes and the dates by some days.
Length of a dasha year. A dasha year here is 365.25 days. Some calculators use a 360-day savana year and some simply count birthdays. The convention is genuinely disputed. A 360-day year runs 5.25 days a year ahead, which adds up to about ten months over 60 years.
Historical time zones. This page applies the clock offset the birth place actually kept on that date. From 1942 to 1945, for example, India's clocks were six and a half hours ahead of UTC, not five and a half. A calculator that assumes +5:30 for every date moves a birth in those years by an hour — and, as the table above shows, an hour can move dasha dates by months.
The birth time itself. Usually the largest cause. A hospital record, a family's memory and a rectified time often differ by half an hour.

It works out the Vimshottari dasha periods of a birth chart: the nine planetary mahadashas that make up a 120-year cycle, their antardashas and pratyantardashas, with start and end dates. The starting period and its unexpired balance come from the Moon's exact nakshatra at birth.
Enter your date, time and place of birth. The result marks the mahadasha, antardasha and pratyantardasha running today and gives the date each one ends.
They are three levels of the same clock. A mahadasha lasts 6 to 20 years. Each divides into nine antardashas (bhuktis) in proportion to the planets' years, and each antardasha divides into nine pratyantardashas by the same rule.
Take the share of the birth nakshatra the Moon has not yet crossed and multiply it by the nakshatra lord's mahadasha years. That balance is the first period of life; every period after it runs in full.
Yes: tick the box and the chart is cast for sunrise, the classical substitute. The page then re-runs the calculation for every minute of the birth day and tells you which periods are certain and how far the dates could move. The Moon moves about half a degree an hour, so the dates can shift by months.
The usual causes are the birth time, the ayanamsa, the length of a dasha year (365.25 days here; some use 360) and the time zone applied to historical dates. Each is explained on this page.
Venus, at 20 years. Saturn runs 19, Rahu 18, Mercury 17, Jupiter 16, the Moon 10, Ketu and Mars 7 each, and the Sun 6.
A second, shorter dasha system: eight yoginis ruling 1 to 8 years each in a 36-year cycle, also started from the Moon's nakshatra. It is on the Yogini tab of the result.
No. It computes the periods and shows where each running period's planet sits in your chart. What a period brings depends on the whole chart, and a single sentence cannot honestly say it.
