All times are local to Bhubaneswar, computed for Asia/Kolkata (UTC+05:30). Bhadra is an instant of the Moon, the same everywhere: every Indian city has the same Bhadra on the IST clock. What Bhubaneswar changes is the calendar day it falls on, and the clock abroad.
No Bhadra touches 27 October 2026 in Bhubaneswar.
The next 12 Bhadras from Tue 27 Oct, each with its loka. A Bhadra comes about every three and a half days and lasts about half a day.

Next for Bhubaneswar
The two festivals that wait for Bhadra: the rakhi is tied once Bhadra has ended while Purnima runs, and the Holika bonfire is lit after Bhadra — in its punchha if Bhadra runs past midnight, never in its mukha. The times below are the festival pages' own, for Bhubaneswar.
| Festival | Day | Bhadra | Muhurat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Raksha Bandhan | Tuesday, 17 August 2027 | 10:29 AM – 11:45 PM (16 Aug) | 5:26 AM to 12:58 PM |
| Holika Dahan | Monday, 22 March 2027 | 6:22 PM (21 Mar) – 5:15 AM | 5:58 PM to 8:20 PM |
Muhurta Chintamani places Bhadra in one of three worlds by the sign the Moon is in, and says its result is felt in that world:
कुम्भकर्कद्वये मर्त्ये स्वर्गेऽब्जेऽजात्त्रयेऽलिगे ।
स्त्रीधनुर्जूकनक्रेऽधो भद्रा तत्रैव तत्फलम् ॥| Moon's sign | Bhadra is in |
|---|---|
| Mesha, Vrishabha, Mithuna, Vrishchika | swarga, heaven |
| Kanya, Tula, Dhanu, Makara | patala, the underworld |
| Karka, Simha, Kumbha, Meena | prithvi, the earth |
The gloss usually quoted after it (Piyush Dhara): Bhadra in swarga does good, in patala brings wealth, and on the earth spoils every undertaking.
Where traditions differ: many families and almanacs avoid only an earthly Bhadra and treat swarga and patala Bhadra as harmless; many others avoid every Bhadra for an auspicious start whatever its loka. For Raksha Bandhan and Holika Dahan the almanacs wait for any Bhadra to end. This page prints the loka and leaves the choice to the family's custom.
The tithi that holds a Bhadra is divided into eight praharas, each of seven and a half ghatis measured on the Moon. Bhadra's mukha (mouth) is the first five ghatis of one prahara and its punchha (tail) the last three ghatis of another, by the tithi — the classical table below. The mukha is avoided for any rite; the punchha is the part some rites may use, as the Holika bonfire does when Bhadra runs past midnight.
| Tithi | Vishti in | Mukha in prahara | Punchha in prahara |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shukla Chaturthi | second half | 5 | 8 |
| Shukla Ashtami | first half | 2 | 1 |
| Shukla Ekadashi | second half | 7 | 6 |
| Purnima | first half | 4 | 3 |
| Krishna Tritiya | second half | 8 | 7 |
| Krishna Saptami | first half | 3 | 2 |
| Krishna Dashami | second half | 6 | 5 |
| Krishna Chaturdashi | first half | 1 | 4 |
A karana is half a tithi, and Vishti is the seventh of the seven karanas that repeat through the lunar month — so it comes eight times a month, half a tithi each time: the second half of Shukla Chaturthi and Ekadashi and of Krishna Tritiya and Dashami, the first half of Shukla Ashtami and Purnima and of Krishna Saptami and Chaturdashi.
In the Puranic telling Bhadra is the daughter of Surya and the sister of Shani, given a place in the panchang to keep her fierce nature in check. The muhurta texts close her half-tithi to every auspicious beginning — a wedding, a griha pravesh, a purchase, the rakhi — and keep it for forceful, destructive work.
A tithi is twelve degrees of the Moon's lead over the Sun and a karana is six. Bhadra begins and ends where that lead crosses the Vishti karana's edges, found to the second from the Swiss Ephemeris — the same instants the Raksha Bandhan and Holika Dahan pages print, and within two minutes of AstroSage's Bhadra list. The loka is the Moon's sidereal (Lahiri) sign, cut at the minute it changes sign.
Bhadra Kaal: common questions

There is no Bhadra in Bhubaneswar today. The next begins on Wednesday, 28 October at 2:37 PM and ends at 1:07 AM (29 Oct), in swarga, heaven (the Moon in Vrishabha).
When is the next Bhadra in Bhubaneswar?
Wednesday, 28 October, from 2:37 PM to 1:07 AM (29 Oct), in swarga, heaven (the Moon in Vrishabha).
How do you know which loka Bhadra is in?
By the Moon's sign: with the Moon in Kumbha, Meena, Karka or Simha Bhadra is on the earth; in Mesha, Vrishabha, Mithuna or Vrishchika it is in swarga; in Kanya, Tula, Dhanu or Makara it is in patala (Muhurta Chintamani).
Is Bhadra in swarga or patala inauspicious?
Traditions differ. Many families avoid only an earthly Bhadra — swarga Bhadra is said to do good and patala Bhadra to bring wealth — and many others avoid every Bhadra for an auspicious start. For Raksha Bandhan and Holika Dahan the almanacs wait for any Bhadra to end.
Can rakhi be tied during Bhadra?
No — the rakhi is tied after Bhadra ends, while Purnima runs. The next Raksha Bandhan's Bhadra and muhurat are in the table above.
Is Bhadra at the same time all over India?
Yes. Bhadra is an instant of the Moon, so it falls at the same IST clock time in every Indian city; abroad the local clock time changes.
