Mars (Mangal) · 4th House (Bandhu/Mother/Comforts)
Mars (Mangal) in the 4th House
In the house of home, mother and inner peace Mars is restless: the classical texts read disputes over land or property, friction at home, strain on the mother and an unsettled mind, and the 4th is one of the Mangal dosha houses.

Which sign falls in the 4th house depends on the lagna, and the sign changes Mars's strength there. For a Libra (Tula) lagna this house holds Capricorn (Makara), where Mars is exalted; for a Aries (Mesha) lagna it holds Cancer (Karka), where it is debilitated. It is the yogakaraka for Cancer (Karka), Leo (Simha) lagna.

- Ruchaka yoga (Pancha Mahapurusha): Mars in a kendra in its own or exaltation sign — for Libra (Tula), Leo (Simha), Capricorn (Makara) lagna.
- Mangal (Kuja) dosha: this house counts; the table above marks the signs where a classical cancellation applies. The Manglik calculator checks a whole chart, from the lagna, the Moon and Venus.
Mars mahadasha runs 7 years. This placement speaks most clearly then — in Mars's own mahadasha, in its antardashas inside other mahadashas, and in the dasha of the lord of the 4th house. Saturn's and Jupiter's transits over this house, or over the planet itself, wake it too.

- Chant the Mars mantra: Om Kraam Kreem Kraum Sah Bhaumaya Namah. Sit facing east after sunrise — Tuesday is the strongest day for it. Chant 3 malas a day (324 repetitions), keeping count on a 108-bead mala. Keep it up for 40 days without a break — that completes the traditional 10,000.
- Give a Mars donation. Give red lentils, jaggery, copper on Tuesday, before noon. Offer it to a soldier, sportsperson or younger brother, or to anyone in genuine need. Give quietly, in person, without expecting thanks.
- Daily practice for Mars. Plant a neem tree; be of service to your siblings. Keep it up every day for 40 days — consistency is the remedy.
