Times are local to Kuala Lumpur. A row marked kshaya tithi is one the tithi never carried at sunrise — it began after one and ended before the next, and the observance is kept on the day it ran through. A row marked kept on the next day too is one where the tithi spans two sunrises, so two traditions genuinely take two different days.

How the day for Navami is decided

A tithi is one thirtieth of a lunation — the Moon gaining 12° on the Sun — so it averages 23 hours 37 minutes against a 24-hour day and almost never begins at sunrise. The rule this page uses is the usual one: the tithi running at sunrise names the day. Two consequences show up in the table above and neither is an error. When a tithi is running at sunrise on two consecutive days, both days are genuinely claimed and traditions divide on which to keep — the Smarta and Vaishnava Ekadashi calendars differ on exactly that. When it touches no sunrise at all it is kshaya (skipped), and the observance is kept on the day it ran through. The start and end instants are the astronomy and are not in dispute; the day is an interpretation of them, and this page names the one it used rather than presenting it as the only one.

Other cities

Sunrise decides which day a tithi names, and sunrise differs across India by well over an hour — so the day itself, not only the clock times, can differ between two cities on this list.

This table is recomputed for the city you pick. Those links are variants of this page: each carries a canonical back to the address above and asks search engines not to index it.

Common questions

When is Navami in 2026?

The next Navami in 2026 is Tuesday, 20 October 2026. The tithi runs 19 Oct, 13:22 → 20 Oct, 15:20 in Kuala Lumpur. All 24 dates for the year are in the table above.

How many Navami tithis fall in 2026?

24 — 12 in the Shukla (bright) fortnight and 12 in the Krishna (dark) one. The count moves between years because twelve lunations fall about eleven days short of a solar year, and an adhika (extra) month changes it again.

What is the difference between Shukla Navami and Krishna Navami?

They are the same tithi number in different fortnights. Shukla paksha is the bright fortnight that follows the new moon; Krishna paksha is the dark one that follows the full moon. Navami comes round twice a lunar month, once in each, and the Paksha column above says which is which.

Why does my calendar show a different Navami date in 2026?

Because a tithi rarely begins or ends at sunrise. When it is running at sunrise on two days, or on none, traditions divide: some take the day the tithi touches sunrise, others the day it begins. The start and end instants above are the astronomy and are not in dispute — the day is an interpretation of them, and this page names the one it used.

Is Navami on the same day everywhere in India?

Not always. The day is decided at sunrise, and sunrise differs across India by well over an hour, so a tithi ending shortly after sunrise in Kuala Lumpur can end shortly before it further west — which moves the observance by a day. Switch city above to see the whole table recomputed.

What else is Navami called?

Navmi, Navami tithi — all the same tithi. This page keeps one address for it so the answer lives in one place.

What is a kshaya Navami?

Navami is kshaya 1 time(s) in 2026: Sunday, 4 October 2026. A kshaya tithi touches no sunrise at all — it begins after one and ends before the next. The observance is still kept, on the day the tithi ran through, but the usual sunrise rule did not apply there and this page says so rather than implying it did.
