What is Sarvatobhadra Chakra?
Sarvatobhadra Chakra is a traditional Jyotish framework for organising several celestial and calendar factors on one square map, then studying how a transiting planet connects with them through Vedha. Vedha is often translated as obstruction, but that English word is too narrow. In practice it means a directed contact: one occupied point sends a ray toward other points prescribed by the selected rule set.
The word sarvato-bhadra suggests protection or auspiciousness on every side. That does not mean every contact is favourable. It describes the all-sided structure of the Chakra. A reader still has to ask which graha is making contact, what it touches, whether the planet is direct or retrograde, and whether the natal chart and active dasha support the same topic.
This is why a bare image of the grid is not a prediction. The useful output is a chain you can inspect: planet → motion state → ray direction → contacted point → traditional meaning → chart confirmation. Why the Chakra uses 28 lunar stations
Most everyday Nakshatra work uses 27 lunar stations. Sarvatobhadra layouts commonly add Abhijit, producing a 28-star ring. That extra station changes the geometry and is one reason a normal 27-star Navatara table cannot be substituted for a Sarvatobhadra Chakra.
The wider classical layout can also place vowels, consonants, Tithis, weekdays and zodiac signs around its cells. Different lineages arrange or emphasise those layers differently. A modern calculator must therefore name its convention. Our implementation declares a 28-star, three-ray Maansagari variant for transit Vedha and keeps the separate Kota and Trishula rules outside it. It does not claim that one software layout settles every textual or regional variation.
Your birth Nakshatra remains important, but it is not the only anchor. A personal reading also checks the natal Moon, planets occupying sensitive stars, and the houses those planets rule in your Kundli. If the birth time is uncertain, the Moon star may still be usable while house-based conclusions become much weaker.
How transit Vedha is calculated
Start with the sidereal position of each transiting graha for the requested moment. That longitude fixes its Nakshatra. The selected Sarvatobhadra rule then assigns one or more directional rays from that occupied station.
Motion matters. In the convention used by the calculator:
- Normal direct motion selects the ordinary ray pattern.
- Fast motion can select a different direction where the rule table declares it.
- Retrograde motion reverses apparent movement and uses the retrograde direction defined by the same table.
- Sun, Moon, Rahu and Ketu cast all three declared rays in this implementation rather than being treated like an ordinary direct planet.
This is a rule lookup after an astronomical calculation. The planetary longitude and apparent motion can be reproduced from an ephemeris; the meaning assigned to the contact belongs to the astrology tradition. Keeping those two layers separate prevents a symbolic interpretation from being presented as an astronomical fact.
What a Vedha result actually means
A contact is best read as a review signal, not an event promise. A Jupiter contact may traditionally enlarge, teach or expose an opportunity; Saturn may demand structure, delay or accountability; Mars may accelerate conflict, effort or decisive action. The contacted Nakshatra or chart factor says where the attention lands.
Suppose Saturn is retrograde and its declared ray reaches your Janma Nakshatra. The responsible reading is not “something bad will happen.” It is: Saturn is repeatedly contacting a personal lunar anchor under this rule, so review obligations, boundaries and work that cannot be rushed. Then check four questions:
- Which houses does Saturn rule in your natal chart?
- Where is natal Saturn placed and how strong is it?
- Is a Saturn dasha, antardasha or connected house period active?
- Do ordinary circumstances already make that theme relevant?
Without that confirmation, Vedha remains a timing prompt. With agreement across several independent factors, it becomes a stronger period to monitor—but still not certainty.
Support, pressure and mixed signals
People naturally want one green or red answer. Sarvatobhadra rarely behaves that neatly. Several grahas can contact different personal points at the same time. Jupiter may support a learning or network theme while Saturn pressures the workload needed to sustain it. Mars may create urgency inside a period that is otherwise constructive.
We therefore separate:

The last row matters. A quiet Chakra period is not an empty life. Dashas, ordinary transits, personal decisions and real-world conditions continue.
Kota Chakra and Trishula as confirmation layers
Our tool shows Kota and Trishula separately because merging their results into Sarvatobhadra would hide the method.
Kota Chakra is treated as a relative fort. The calculator reports whether a planet is moving inward, outward or holding a sensitive zone. These are secondary confirmation states, not independent event predictions. An inward benefic is not automatically a reward, and an outward malefic is not automatically a loss.
Trishula checks four sensitive positions—1st, 9th, 15th and 21st—counted from the current Sun in the rule contract used here. A match is a caution prompt. It must never be converted into claims about death, disease, lifespan or unavoidable harm.
Agreement between layers is more useful than intensity inside one layer. If Sarvatobhadra, Kota, the natal chart and the running dasha all point to the same life area, schedule a closer review. If only one minor rule matches, keep it proportionate.
How to read your Chakra result in seven steps
- Confirm the inputs. Date, exact local birth time, city coordinates and timezone must describe the same birth moment.
- Read the declared method. Do not compare two calculators until you know whether they use the same 28-star layout and ray rules.
- Start with the current summary. Note the strongest support, strongest pressure and the contacted personal point.
- Open the transit ledger. Inspect every graha, its motion and the evidence behind the verdict.
- Check Kota and Trishula separately. Use them as confirmation, not extra votes added to a score.
- Connect the natal chart and dasha. This is where a general transit becomes personal.
- Turn it into a review date. Prepare, verify and observe rather than making a high-stakes decision because a cell changed colour.
Sarvatobhadra, Navatara and Sudarshana are not the same
Navatara Chakra counts every Nakshatra from your Janma Nakshatra and repeats nine Tara categories. It is a lunar relationship cycle. Sarvatobhadra maps directional Vedha from transiting grahas. Sudarshana Chakra reads the same ordinal house from Lagna, Moon and Sun and can progress the activated house by birthday year. They can corroborate one another, but one cannot replace another.
Frequently asked questions
Can Sarvatobhadra Chakra predict an exact event?
No. It can organise traditional timing signals and show when several factors converge. Exact event claims require assumptions the grid cannot prove.
Is every Saturn or Rahu Vedha bad?
No. The result depends on the contacted point, natal lordship, strength, dasha and circumstances. Difficult planets can describe disciplined work, research, competition or necessary endings as well as strain.
Why do two Sarvatobhadra calculators disagree?
They may use different ayanamsha values, 27 versus 28 stars, ray tables, motion thresholds or textual variants. Compare the disclosed method before comparing the verdict.
Do I need exact birth time?
For a star-only transit map, date and approximate time may sometimes be enough. For houses, chart strength and a genuinely personal interpretation, exact time and location matter.
