Start and end
Tithi start and end time — 12 October 2026
A tithi is the time the Moon takes to gain twelve degrees on the Sun, so it begins and ends at one instant for everyone — in every city on Indian Standard Time the clock time below is the same. What changes from city to city is sunrise, and sunrise decides which tithi names the day. A tithi runs about 20 to 27 hours, so most days carry two.
| Tithi | Paksha | Begins | Ends | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shukla Dwitiya | Shukla | 11 Oct, 9:31 PM | 10:13 PM | At sunrise — names the day |
| Shukla Tritiya | Shukla | 10:13 PM | 13 Oct, 11:28 PM |
Paksha and month
Paksha, Hindu month and samvat of tomorrow's tithi
Two reckonings name the same month differently for half of it. North India counts the month purnimanta, ending at the full moon; Gujarat, Maharashtra and the South count it amanta, ending at the new moon. In Shukla paksha both give one name; in Krishna paksha the purnimanta name is already the next month's. Both are shown, computed at this sunrise.
