Outside India
Pushya begins and ends at the same instant everywhere — it is the Moon's position, not a local event — so across India the clock times below do not change. What the city changes is sunrise, which divides the span into weekdays (and so decides Guru or Ravi Pushya at the edges), and the choghadiya inside it.
Every Pushya Nakshatra in 2026
The Moon passes through Pushya about every 27.3 days, so a year has 13 or 14. Each row is dated by the day that holds most of it; the Guru and Ravi Pushya parts are named with their own windows.

Meaning and tradition
What Pushya Nakshatra is, and why Diwali shoppers look for it
Pushya is the eighth of the 27 nakshatras: the Moon between 3°20' and 16°40' of sidereal Cancer. Its deity is Brihaspati, the guru of the gods, and its name means "nourishing". Muhurta texts count it among the most favourable nakshatras for beginnings, and the one in the week before Diwali has become the season's traditional day for buying gold, silver, vehicles and household things.
- Guru Pushya (on a Thursday) and Ravi Pushya (on a Sunday) are the two weekday combinations the tradition singles out. The weekday is the Vedic one, sunrise to sunrise.
- The same tradition keeps Pushya out of marriage muhurats, so a wedding date is never chosen by it.
- These are descriptions of a custom, not promises. Nothing has to be bought on this day, and a purchase made on it is worth what it costs.
- The nakshatra is read with the Lahiri ayanamsa, as the rest of this site's panchang is; its start and end are the same instant everywhere.

Common questions
When is Pushya Nakshatra before Diwali 2026?
From Sunday, 1 November, 05:39 to Monday, 2 November, 04:30, in Surat time. Diwali's Lakshmi Puja follows on Sunday, 8 November 2026.
Is it Guru Pushya or Ravi Pushya in 2026?
Ravi Pushya: Pushya falls on a Sunday, 1 Nov, 06:41 to 2 Nov, 04:30. A weekday runs from one sunrise to the next, so the yoga is the part of Pushya inside that day.
How many Guru Pushya and Ravi Pushya days are there in 2026?
9: Ravi Pushya on Sunday, 4 January 2026; Ravi Pushya on Sunday, 1 February 2026; Ravi Pushya on Sunday, 1 March 2026; Guru Pushya on Thursday, 23 April 2026; Guru Pushya on Thursday, 21 May 2026; Guru Pushya on Thursday, 18 June 2026; Ravi Pushya on Sunday, 4 October 2026; Ravi Pushya on Sunday, 1 November 2026; Ravi Pushya on Sunday, 29 November 2026.
How long does Pushya Nakshatra last?
Usually between 19 and 27 hours — the time the Moon takes to cross 13°20' of the sidereal zodiac, which changes with its speed. It comes round about every 27.3 days, so there are 13 or 14 in a year.
Why does another calendar give a slightly different time?
Nakshatra times differ by a minute or two between panchangs that round differently, and by more where an almanac uses another ayanamsa than Lahiri, which this page uses. The weekday split also turns on sunrise, so a Pushya that begins just before dawn belongs to the previous weekday.
