How the career reading is made
- The 10th house. Counted from your lagna in whole signs; its lord is the lord of that sign. Where the lord sits, in which sign and with what dignity, is the first statement about work.
- What touches it. Planets in the 10th, and planets aspecting it by the classical aspects (every planet the 7th; Mars also the 4th and 8th, Jupiter the 5th and 9th, Saturn the 3rd and 10th, Rahu and Ketu the 5th and 9th).
- The D10. The Dasamsa chart: its lagna, its 10th house, and where your birth chart's 10th lord falls in it.
- The Amatyakaraka. Of the seven grahas, the one second furthest into its sign, in Jaimini's seven-karaka scheme.
- Timing. The Vimshottari mahadasha and antardasha at today's date, and each lord's link to the 10th and to the 2nd, 6th and 11th.

Which house shows career in astrology?
The 10th house, the karma bhava, read with its lord and the planets in it or aspecting it. The 6th house adds daily work and service, and the 2nd and 11th add income and gains, so a full reading looks at all four.
What is the D10 chart?
The Dasamsa, the tenth divisional chart. Each sign is divided into ten parts of three degrees, and classical practice reads the resulting chart for profession and standing. Because its lagna changes about every twelve minutes, it needs an accurate birth time.
What is the Amatyakaraka?
In Jaimini astrology, the planet with the second-highest degree within its sign: the minister to the Atmakaraka, read for career and the work you are drawn to. Unlike the 10th lord, it is chosen by your own chart's degrees.
Can astrology tell my exact profession?
No. A chart describes the shape of work — authority, service, craft, commerce — and the planets give traditional fields for it. It does not name an employer, a job title or a salary, and it is not a reason to take or refuse an offer.
How do dasha periods affect career?
Periods of planets linked to the 10th house — its lord, planets in it or aspecting it, and the Amatyakaraka — are read as the times work matters most: new roles, promotions or changes. This page lists the next such periods in your current mahadasha with dates.
Do I need my exact birth time?
Yes. The lagna sets every house, including the 10th, and changes about every two hours; the D10 lagna changes about every twelve minutes. With an approximate time, read the D10 as approximate too.
