Calculator facts
Lal Kitab Kundli Calculator
- The nine grahas in their houses, from your exact Lagna
- The Lal Kitab chart: house numbers fixed, house 1 always 1
- Each graha's Lal Kitab reading and its upay, in plain words
- Stones named only where your chart's gem rule allows them
Lal Kitab reads a chart by house alone: where each graha sits, counted from the Lagna, decides its reading and its remedy. Signs, degrees and dashas, which the classical texts weigh, play no part in it.
Worked example (15 August 1990, 10:30, New Delhi): The Virgo lagna becomes house 1 of the Lal Kitab kundli. The most crowded house is the 11th house, with the Sun, Jupiter, Venus and Ketu.

Each upay is small and cheap: do it steadily, without fear, and do not start many at once. A line naming a gemstone appears only when your chart's gem rule allows that stone, and then with its caution. Each graha's name links to the full page on that graha in that house.
How a Lal Kitab kundli is made
- The Lagna. Your birth time and place give the sign that was rising in the east.
- The houses. The Lagna's sign is house 1, the next sign house 2, and so on round the twelve (whole-sign houses, as in a Vedic kundli).
- Fixed numbers. Lal Kitab writes each house's own number in it: house 1 is 1, house 2 is 2 — as Aries is 1 in the natural zodiac. The signs drop out; the grahas keep their houses.
- Readings and upay. Each graha's reading and remedy are read from its house — the same table our full report and Swarn's chat use.
How to do the upay
- One or two upay at a time, for 40 to 43 days, is the tradition's usual rule.
- The upay are cheap and simple: water, grain, giving, service. An upay that costs a lot is not Lal Kitab's.
- No upay should harm anyone, and none replaces a doctor or medicine.

Lal Kitab kundli — questions
What is a Lal Kitab kundli?
It is your birth chart as Lal Kitab reads it: each graha stays in the house it occupies from the Lagna, and the houses carry fixed numbers, so house 1 is always 1, the number of Aries, whatever your rising sign. Lal Kitab then reads each graha by its house and gives it a remedy.
How is a Lal Kitab kundli different from a normal kundli?
A Vedic kundli writes the sign number in each house, so the first house shows your Lagna's sign. A Lal Kitab kundli writes the house number instead and reads the grahas by house alone, without signs, degrees, aspects or dashas.
Do I need my exact birth time?
Yes. The Lagna changes about every two hours, and every house is counted from it. With a wrong time a graha can move to the next house, and its reading and upay change with it.
What are Lal Kitab upay?
Small practical acts tied to a graha's house: things to do, things to give away and habits to avoid, such as offering water to the Sun at sunrise or feeding a cow. They are meant to be cheap, simple and done steadily.
Does Lal Kitab ask me to wear a gemstone?
Only a few entries name a stone, and this calculator shows such a line only when your chart's gem rule allows that stone, with its caution. Otherwise the stone is left out and the rest of the upay stays.
Who wrote Lal Kitab?
Lal Kitab is a set of five Urdu books published in Punjab between 1939 and 1952 and attributed to Pandit Roop Chand Joshi. It mixes astrology with palmistry and folk remedies.
