The sixteen vargas are one system and are read together. Every chart below is computed by the same engine from the same birth moment, so a placement checked on one page is the placement the next page is reading.
A Raja Yoga is a specific structural fact about a chart: a lord of an angle and a lord of a trine brought together.
Gajakesari is the elephant-and-lion yoga: Jupiter standing at an angle from the Moon.
Dhana means wealth, and the classical Dhana Yoga is a link between the lord of the second house — what is accumulated — and the lord of the eleventh — what comes in.
Neecha bhanga means the cancellation of debilitation.
Budha is Mercury and Aditya is the Sun.
Five yogas, one for each of the five non-luminous planets, each formed the same way: the planet in its own sign or exalted, in an angle from the ascendant.
Vargottama means best in division: a planet occupying the same sign in the birth chart and in a divisional chart.
One pass, every named yoga the engine detects, each reported as present or absent with the classical rule it was tested against.
The Upapada Lagna is Jaimini's marriage point: the arudha of the twelfth house.
The Arudha Lagna is the image of the first house: not who a person is, but what they look like to everyone else.
Jaimini's significators are not fixed.
Ashtakavarga turns a chart into a number for every sign: how many of eight sources support a planet there.
The full birth chart these divisions are cut from is at Free Kundli, and the Vimshottari periods they are read alongside are at Year Ahead.
Computed for 12 April 1990, 10:30, New Delhi. The D60 ascendant is Taurus, ruled by Venus. Houses below are whole-sign, counted from that ascendant.
| Planet | Birth chart sign | D60 sign | D60 house | Sign lord | Vargottama |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sun | Pisces | Scorpio | 7 | Mars | — |

Vargottama planets in this division: Venus. A planet in the same sign here as in the birth chart is doing the same thing at two resolutions, which the tradition reads as stability rather than as strength.
Dignity is judged inside a divisional chart exactly as it is in the birth chart: a planet in its exaltation sign, its own sign or its debilitation sign is read the same way whichever chart it is sitting in. That is the reading a list of varga signs does not give you, and it is the reason a divisional chart is worth computing rather than glancing at.
In this D60: exalted — none; in own sign — none; debilitated — Mercury. Every other planet is in a neutral, friendly or inimical sign, which the classical five-fold scheme distinguishes further and which the full strength calculation on the birth chart resolves.
Read this column against the birth chart rather than on its own. A planet exalted in the D1 and debilitated here describes a promise that does not survive the division; the reverse is the classical picture of something that looks unpromising and holds up. Agreement between the two is the strongest statement either chart makes, in whichever direction it points.
In your past-life karma & totality (Shashtiamsa) chart, the ascendant rises in Taurus — so at the core of your karmic self, you are steady, patient and comfort-loving — you value security and can be stubborn.
Your ascendant lord Venus sits in the 10th house in a friendly sign (well supported), where much of your energy in this area flows. As a functional benefic (ruling the 1st and 6th houses) it supports and protects this area.
The 1st house — the core of past-life karma and this life's totality here — falls in Taurus, so this area takes on Taurus's nature: stable, loyal, comfort-loving and sometimes stubborn.
The lord of your past-life karma and this life's totality is Venus, sitting in your 10th house in a friendly sign (well supported). Wherever this lord goes, it carries the matters of past-life karma and this life's totality with it.
Sitting in the 10th house (an angle), it makes past-life karma and this life's totality prominent and active in your life.
Saturn, the natural significator of past-life karma and this life's totality, is in a neutral sign in Pisces in your 11th house. As the karaka it shows the substance of past-life karma and this life's totality: discipline, duty, patience and hard lessons colour this area strongly.
Jupiter, the natural significator of past-life karma and this life's totality, is in a neutral sign in Aquarius in your 10th house. As the karaka it shows the substance of past-life karma and this life's totality: wisdom, growth, fortune and values colour this area strongly.
Sun, the natural significator of past-life karma and this life's totality, is in a friendly sign (well supported) in Scorpio in your 7th house. As the karaka it shows the substance of past-life karma and this life's totality: soul, ego, authority and confidence colour this area strongly.
In your 10th house, Jupiter with Venus blends wisdom and love — refined and devotional, but can over-idealise relationships.
In your 11th house, Mercury, Saturn and Rahu come together — a layered combination blending intelligence, communication and adaptability, discipline, duty, patience and hard lessons and ambition, obsession, the foreign and the unconventional; expect this area to be intense and eventful.
The Sun's aspect adds ego, authority and visibility — it casts a full aspect onto your past-life karma and this life's totality.
Saturn's aspect brings discipline, delay and a serious, testing tone — it casts a special aspect onto your past-life karma and this life's totality.
Your ascendant is aspected by Sun and Saturn, shaping the core temperament of this chart.
Saturn is the yogakaraka for this Taurus lagna (ruling the 9th and 10th houses — a kendra and a trikona together), a powerful, fortune-giving planet. Wherever Saturn sits (the 11th house) becomes a source of rise.
A Raja Yoga forms in your 11th house: a kendra lord and a trikona lord join there, promising rise, status and good fortune.
Mercury is debilitated in Pisces — give whatever it signifies conscious care and remedies; it can still be redeemed.
Venus holds the same sign here as in your birth chart — a standout strength that stays steady (this is called vargottama).
The Shashtiamsa is the finest, most karmic layer — each planet's half-degree falls under one of 60 deities, revealing the past-life quality behind its results:
• Venus → Deva (benefic) — supported and ripe to reward.
• Sun → Kubera (benefic) — supported and ripe to reward.
• Moon → Utpata (malefic) — testing, asking for conscious effort and remedy.
• Mars → Ghora (malefic) — testing, asking for conscious effort and remedy.
• Mercury → Kantaka (malefic) — testing, asking for conscious effort and remedy.
• Jupiter → Heramba (benefic) — supported and ripe to reward.
Reading every house of your D60 so nothing is left out:
• 1st house (self, body & temperament) — Taurus; its lord Venus in the 10th.
• 2nd house (wealth, family & speech) — Gemini; its lord Mercury in the 11th.
• 3rd house (courage, siblings & effort) — Cancer; its lord Moon in the 12th.
• 4th house (home, mother & comforts) — Leo; its lord Sun in the 7th.
• 5th house (children, intelligence & creativity) — Virgo; here: Ketu; its lord Mercury in the 11th.
• 6th house (obstacles, health & service) — Libra; its lord Venus in the 10th.
• 7th house (partner & public dealings) — Scorpio; here: Sun; its lord Mars in the 8th.
• 8th house (longevity, secrets & sudden change) — Sagittarius; here: Mars; its lord Jupiter in the 10th.
• 9th house (fortune, dharma & father) — Capricorn; its lord Saturn in the 11th.
• 10th house (career, status & action) — Aquarius; here: Jupiter and Venus; its lord Saturn in the 11th.
• 11th house (gains, networks & desires) — Pisces; here: Mercury, Saturn and Rahu; its lord Jupiter in the 10th.
• 12th house (loss, expenses, foreign & liberation) — Aries; here: Moon; its lord Mars in the 8th.
The Arudha Pada (the visible, perceived outcome) of your past-life karma and this life's totality falls in Leo. To the outer world, this area *appears* proud, warm, confident and image-conscious, someone who likes respect — how others read it, regardless of how it feels inside.
• Sun, the significator of past-life karma and this life's totality, is well placed — a real blessing.
• Your ascendant lord Venus is strong, giving resilience and self-direction.
• Saturn press on your past-life karma and this life's totality — expect delay, friction or unconventional turns that maturity smooths.
Your strongest planet here is Sun (in a friendly sign (well supported), 7th house). Lean on its gifts — soul, ego, authority and confidence — they flow most easily.
Your most fragile planet is Mercury (debilitated (weak, needs care), 11th house). Whatever it signifies — intelligence, communication and adaptability — asks for conscious effort and the remedy below.
Overall this is a balanced chart for past-life karma and this life's totality — genuine blessings with a few real challenges, responding well to focused effort and realistic expectations.
Targeted remedies strengthen exactly the planets under strain, so the chart's weak points soften over time. For your chart:
• Mercury: chant Om Budhaya Namah, practise honest speech, feed green fodder to cows, help students (Wednesdays).
• Treat life as repaying and earning karma together.
• Good conduct now writes the next chapter.
• Service and remembrance lighten old karmic loads.
